Filipinos travelling between Dubai and Manila are finally getting relief. Cebu Pacific, the Philippines' leading low-cost carrier, has confirmed it will restart direct flights on the Dubai-Manila route from July 2, 2026, operating four times a week on Tuesdays, Thursdays, Saturdays, and Sundays.
The route had been suspended since March after a combination of Middle East geopolitical tensions and severe airspace restrictions forced the airline to ground the service. Dubai International Airport (DXB) experienced operational volatility during that period, and Cebu Pacific chose to pause flights while conducting safety reviews and working through updated requirements with regional airport authorities.
Why Did Flights Stop in the First Place?
The suspension was not merely a business decision. During the height of regional tensions, jet fuel prices, a high cost for airlines, surged to more than double their average for 2025, according to industry estimates. Additionally, temporary airspace closures in parts of the Middle East forced airlines to divert routes, which increased both travel time and fuel consumption. Cebu Pacific opted to extend the suspension multiple times as conditions changed, prioritizing safety assessments over a rushed return to service.
What This Means for OFWs and Travellers
The Dubai-Manila corridor is one of Cebu Pacific's most strategically important international routes. It serves a steady stream of overseas Filipino workers (OFWs), tourists, and families travelling between the Gulf and the Philippines. During the months the route was down, passengers had limited alternatives, and airline competition dropped sharply, driving ticket prices significantly higher on competing carriers. The return of Cebu Pacific's budget-friendly pricing is widely expected to bring fares back down.
What Travellers Should Know
Passengers can book tickets directly through Cebu Pacific's official website or through authorized travel agents. Given pent-up demand after months of suspension, early booking is advisable as seats in the initial weeks of resumed service may fill quickly.
