OGold secures strategic investment from Plug and Play Ventures to accelerate global gold & silver ecosystem

DUBAIOGold, the UAE’s leading Shariah-compliant gold and silver-backed "Super App," has announced a strategic investment from Plug and Play Ventures. The backing from the Silicon Valley-based venture capital giant—famed for early bets on unicorns like PayPal and Dropbox—marks a significant milestone for the Middle Eastern fintech sector.

The investment is designed to accelerate OGold’s mission: transforming traditional precious metals from static, physical hedges into liquid, digital assets for the modern economy.

Exponential Growth and Market Validation

The funding comes on the heels of a record-breaking period for the Dubai-based startup. By lowering the barrier to entry—allowing users to purchase fractional gold and silver for as little as Dh1—OGold has successfully democratized access to wealth preservation. OGold has now surpassed 1 million registered users and processed over $50 million in Gross Merchandise Value (GMV), with all digital holdings backed by physical gold stored in high-security, insured UAE vaults.

Global Scaling and Product Innovation

With the support of Plug and Play’s network of 550+ corporate partners and 60 global locations, OGold is embarking on an aggressive multi-phased expansion strategy. The new capital will be deployed across three primary pillars:

  • The OGold Mastercard: Enhancing the utility of the app by allowing users to spend their gold holdings at point-of-sale terminals globally.
  • Cross-Border Utility: Rolling out the app across high-growth international markets to meet the rising demand for ethical, Shariah-compliant fintech.
  • Infrastructure Scaling: Strengthening the digital ecosystem to support a larger volume of global cross-border transactions.

"Our mission has always been to make gold and silver accessible and functional for everyone," said Bandar Alothman, Founder of OGold. "With Plug and Play’s backing, we are entering a new phase of growth where we will redefine how the world interacts with precious metals."

A Transformation in Fintech

Plug and Play Ventures’ decision to partner with OGold highlights a shift in investor interest toward "ethical fintech"—solutions that combine traditional asset security with the speed of digital commerce.

Alireza Masrour, General Partner at Plug and Play Ventures, noted: "OGold’s milestone of reaching 1 million users in such a short time demonstrates a clear market demand for ethical solutions. They perfectly align with our mission to support technologies that have the potential to lead on a global stage."

The transaction was facilitated by Amadi Ventures Limited. By merging the stability of gold with the versatility of a digital "Super App," OGold is positioning Dubai as a central hub for the future of digital asset trade.
