Sharjah to Install 100+ Fast EV Chargers | SRTA & ION Partnership

SHARJAH — Sharjah is accelerating its transition to sustainable transport with a major expansion of its electric vehicle (EV) infrastructure. The Sharjah Roads and Transport Authority (SRTA) has officially signed a strategic partnership with ION—the sustainable transport venture between Beeah Group and Crescent Enterprises—to roll out a network of over 100 fast EV chargers.

This initiative marks a milestone in the emirate’s environmental journey, as ION becomes the first authorized operator of EV charging points in Sharjah. This follows other regional green initiatives like the cleantech growth in Dubai.

Powering the Region: A Comprehensive Network

The agreement ensures that green mobility isn't just limited to the city center. The new fast-charging stations will be strategically deployed across Sharjah City, the Central Region, and the Eastern Region.

By covering these key areas, the SRTA aims to eliminate "range anxiety" for EV owners and encourage more residents to make the switch from internal combustion engines to electric power. This is a critical step as the UAE sees a growing number of EV users.

Seamless Tech for Modern Drivers

To complement the physical infrastructure, ION will launch an integrated mobile application. This digital tool is designed to make the EV experience effortless by allowing users to:

  • Locate the nearest available charging station in real time.
  • Monitor their vehicle’s charging progress remotely.
  • Complete payments through a secure, seamless digital gateway.

Aligning with Global Sustainability Goals

The project is being executed in close coordination with the Sharjah Electricity, Water and Gas Authority (SEWA) to ensure that the grid can support the increased demand while maintaining the highest quality standards.

Yousif Khamis Al Othmani, Chairman of SRTA, noted that this project is a direct response to the growing number of EV users in the UAE. He emphasized that the move reinforces Sharjah’s commitment to reducing carbon emissions and advancing electric mobility in line with global environmental standards.

"This initiative will help build a comprehensive and accessible EV charging ecosystem aligned with the UAE’s sustainability and net-zero ambitions," said Khaled Al Huraimel, Chairman of ION and Group CEO of Beeah.

Why This Matters for Sharjah

The UAE has set an ambitious Net Zero by 2050 goal, and transport is a critical sector for decarbonization. By establishing a reliable, fast-charging network, Sharjah is not only modernizing its infrastructure but also:

  • Attracting Eco-conscious Residents: Making the emirate more appealing to those prioritizing sustainable living.
  • Supporting Local Innovation: Partnering with home-grown entities like Beeah and Crescent Enterprises.
  • Future-Proofing the Economy: Preparing for the global shift away from fossil fuels in the automotive industry.

As the "Era of Green Mobility" takes hold in the UAE, Sharjah’s 100-charger rollout ensures that the emirate remains a leader in the region’s sustainable transformation.
