DUBAI, UAE โ Beyond institutional care and awareness campaigns, a grassroots movement is reshaping the lived experience for families of neurodivergent children in the Emirates. Ausome Family Journey (AFJ), a parent-led support network, has expanded from an informal information-sharing group into a multi-emirate infrastructure providing emotional and developmental scaffolding for People of Determination (POD).
Operating with the cooperation of the Philippine Embassy and Consulate General, and in partnership with clinical specialists like ABLE UK, AFJ bridges the gap between clinical diagnosis and community integration.
Core Pillars of the AFJ Framework
The network's success is built on a structured calendar of recurring programs, each targeting a specific facet of the neurodivergent experience. From therapy-informed peer sessions to expert-led workshops, the framework ensures families receive both practical tools and emotional support throughout their journey.
The 'Transitioning Beyond Borders' Initiative
As the UAE's POD community matures, the focus is shifting toward long-term independence. AFJ is hosting its "Transitioning Beyond Borders" event at Dubai Healthcare City, targeting one of the most challenging phases for families: the transition into adulthood. The curriculum focuses on life skills training, long-term legal and financial planning, and cross-cultural interaction to unite families of diverse nationalities.
