DUBAI โ Etihad Water and Electricity (EtihadWE) has officially announced the commencement of the Fujairah I Independent Water Producer (IWP) project. The Dh1.046 billion facility at the Port of Fujairah will produce 60 million imperial gallons per day (MIGD) of potable water using Seawater Reverse Osmosis (SWRO) technology.
The EPC contract was awarded to a consortium of NMDC Infra and Lantania Aguas.
Project Specifications
- Energy Efficiency: SWRO is significantly more energy-efficient than traditional thermal desalination.
- Storage Resilience: Includes storage equivalent to 18 hours of production for uninterrupted supply.
- Timeline: Approximately 30 months to construction and commissioning.
Strategic Public-Private Partnership
This follows the PPP model and marks EtihadWE's second major IWP project after the 150-MIGD Naqa'a plant. Once operational, water will be distributed across Fujairah and the wider EtihadWE service network.
